The Reverend Catherine (Rev. Cathey) Dowdle
Rev. Cathey and her husband, Tim, recently relocated to the Scripps Ranch area after almost 40 years in Chula Vista. She is a native Oregonian and a cradle Episcopalian who has been active in a local parish all of her life. She was a member of St. John’s, Chula Vista for over 20 years, participating in weekly worship services as a eucharistic minister and visitor, served on the altar guild, and was a lector. Sponsored by St. John’s, she explored and pursued her call to vocation as ordained clergy. She graduated from the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont located in the Los Angeles area on the campus of the Claremont School of Theology with a master's of divinity degree.
She was a bi-vocational priest who was ordained a priest at Christ the King, Alpine, where she served as priest in charge for several years. She then served the diocese as an elected member of the cathedral chapter, an instructor for Safeguarding God’s People, and supply clergy until she retired from her secular job as the customer support floor supervisor with Tapestry Solutions—a software company serving the aerospace and defense marketplace.
With her secular retirement, she sought out a pastoral associate position and was thrilled to return to St. John’s, Chula Vista in that capacity. In addition to pastoral care, she lead a weekly morning prayer/Bible study group, mentored altar guild members and acolytes, and actively participated in St. Margaret’s chapter of Daughters of the King.
“Since our move, I have joined you at several services," Rev. Cathey said. "St. Bartholomew’s is clearly committed to being a welcoming oasis of God’s mercy and grace in a broken world. I am eagerly looking forward to serving and worshipping with you—God is unfolding such an exciting future before us!”
