Those Who Cannot Attend

St. Bart’s has several members who reside in assisted living facilities. Many are able to come and worship with us in person. Others have no way to get here, and some don’t feel confident enough to make the trip. But they are still worshipping Christians and are a part of the body of Christ at St. Bart’s. Whenever I make a visit, God makes that crystal clear to me!
You may have noticed that people with memory issues often remember things from long ago. This is so true for those raised up in the church. At a recent Casa Eucharist, a member attended who wasn’t sure if she would be able to follow along. She did seem confused, but when we recited the Nicene Creed, she recited it clearly and loudly—from memory! At the Remington, a member told me that she didn’t remember anything. But once we got started with home Communion, she recited the Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23, AND the Post-Communion Prayer perfectly, without looking at the book once! I wonder how many of us can do that? These experiences are mini-miracles to me.
This Easter, let us not forget these dear souls of our church who are so close to heaven’s gate. They cannot come, nor are they able to watch online, but they are still a part of us. Please pray for them and for others who cannot sing the alleluias with us this Saturday night and Sunday morning. We know they will be singing alleluia in their hearts. This Holy Week and Easter, may God bless them and their caregivers.
