“Give those of us who consume most of the earth’s resources the will to reorder our lives,
so that all may have their rightful share of food, care, shelter, and fullness of life.”
At St. Bart’s, we pray this prayer every week. But how do we actually put it into practice? How
do we reorder our lives to consume less and live more simply and abundantly on the earth?
These questions are especially timely as we emerge from the pandemic, which has prompted
many of us to reevaluate our priorities.
In April, the Environmental Stewardship Team launched a year-long dialogue series to consider
these questions. We’re exploring topics such as:
● What is a good life?
● How does our worldview nurture (or fail to nurture) compassion toward others, both
human and nonhuman?
● How can we slow down and create space for a greater awareness of God?
● How do our everyday food choices impact our planet?
● What is the place of money in a life rooted in faith and love?
● How much is enough?
● How can we build communities of care that help us live more humbly together
We meet every fourth Sunday of the month at 10:15 a.m., but there’s no obligation to attend
every session. Feel free to drop in as your time permits—all are welcome!
Our next meeting will be on Sunday, May 22, from 10:15 to 11:10 a.m., outside the Education
building. This month’s conversation will focus on how we experience time, and how silence and
contemplation can give us space to live more fully, and will be based on readings from Simpler
Living, Compassionate Life: A Christian Perspective (pages 33–57). If you have questions or
would like to join and need a copy of the readings, please contact Parth Domke at 858.829.2664
