Church Leadership

Our lay leaders

OUR LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE

St. Bart's is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego

The organizational and leadership structure of the Episcopal denomination is connectional in nature and we value relationships with Christians near and far. As part of The Episcopal Church, St. Bart's belongs to a regional body of churches known as a diocese. Rather than operating as a standalone congregation, St. Bart's is one of 44 parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. We are overseen by our Bishop, The Right Reverend Dr. Susan Brown Snook, who serves as chief pastor of the diocese. St. Bart's elects delegates to the Diocesan Convention to represent our parish in discussion and voting on the governance of our diocese.

WHAT     IS A RECTOR?

Clergy

In the day-to-day life, worship, and ministry of our faith community, we are led by our Rector, the Reverend Mother Nina Bacas, who serves as the head pastor and priest of the parish. The rector oversees our team of clergy, staff, and lay leadership.

Our clergy look forward to getting to know you better! Get connected by attending the next Newcomer Brunch and introduce yourself to our clergy after the worship services.

Church Governing Board

ST. BART'S VESTRY is...

Working closely with the Rector, the Vestry serves as the board of directors of the church and governs the business of the parish. Vestry membership includes 12 adult lay leaders, one youth representative, the rector, and parish officers.

Led by the Wardens (chairs) and other executive officers, the Vestry represents the congregation in every area of decision-making and welcomes ideas and feedback at any time. Contact Senior Warden Jerry Gray if you'd like to attend a Vestry meeting or have a topic for the vestry meeting agenda.

Members are elected at the Parish Annual Meeting to a three-year term, and the non-voting youth representative serves for one year.

St. Bart's members in good standing are encouraged to consider serving on the vestry. What is a member in "good standing?" Vestry candidates must be members of the parish for a minimum of six months, must be confirmed, and must provide financial support to the parish with an annual pledge.

To learn more, contact Rev. Nina or our Senior Warden, Jerry Gray.
