Learning About God Together:
"A Grand Journey Through the Bible"
By The Reverend Bill Zettinger, Deacon
Dr. James Brenneman, one of my Seminary professors in Hebrew Bible, once told us that “the Bible is too important to read it literally.” I have always remembered that little piece of wisdom and consider it true. How Scripture speaks to us depends on the lens and context through which we see it and our application of Tradition and Reason.
God gave us minds to reason and we should use them. However, before we can begin to understand how The Word works in our lives, we must first have some basic understanding of Scripture. That is true for all denominations of Christianity but I think even more so for us Episcopalians who seem to be always wrestling with the text – and that’s good.
We are all called to become disciples of Christ, and that journey begins by knowing Scripture and how it speaks to us in our lives. To that end we are beginning a most wonderful journey—by studying the entire Bible.
The Format of our Classes
We’ll have a syllabus format, and all classes will be a mix of teaching and discussion.
Seminars will start on the first Wednesday of the month and will continue for three weeks. There will be a one- or two-week break after the third session depending on whether the month has four or five weeks. All sessions are at 10:30 am Wednesdays. We’ll serve lunch.
A donation of $20 for each three week session is requested to cover lunch and the course materials. The Rev. Bill Zettinger
Scholarships are offered for those without financial means to afford tuition.
Each three-week session is designed to stand alone. You can miss a session yet continue with other following sessions.
