Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is a Christ-centered form of silent prayer. It is a renewal of the ancient Christian practice of contemplative prayer presented in a contemporary form. Centering Prayer is a way to deepen an intimate relationship with God by consenting to His presence and action within us. It is complementary to all other forms of prayer, such as those which are a part of church services: psalms, reading Holy Scripture and recitation of oral prayers. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other forms of prayer that people enjoy, but rather it casts a new meaning and depth on them. In essence, Centering Prayer, which was brought forth by Fr. Thomas Keating, is both a means of deepening your relationship with God and a spiritual discipline to foster and strengthen that relationship.
St. Bart's has two Centering Prayer groups. They both meet in room 3A of the Education Building every Tuesday. The first group meets from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and the second meets from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. We invite you to join us in one of these groups to experience a period of Centering Prayer.
